Practicum 2 (2021)

For my practicum assignment, I carried out a numeracy lesson plan and got children to match coloured animal counters to ice cream stick houses with the same colour. The other activity included having the children roll a dice to get a number from 1 to 5. When they get the number, they have to place the correct number of animals to the corresponding matching number.

A language and literacy activity I planned to get children to write their names and design letters to mail to their friends.

For one of my practicum assignments, I planned a motor skills and numeracy lesson plan and implemented this in class. I got children to jump and hop on the coloured floor mats and throw coloured bean bags into the designated taped box on the floor with the same colour.

Feedback from host teacher
Hai Qing is a conscientious and friendly person who is patient with all the children and treats them equally with respect. She will constantly check in with me and the other teachers to ensure the children are able to understand and enjoy her lesson plans.

What I learned....
- Classroom management skills such as how to get children to pay attention to lessons and play together without fighting over toys
- Curriculum planning skills such as planning age-appropriate learning resources for children with different learning paces and abilities e.g. pictorial guide sheets for those who cannot read long sentences.
The practicum gave me the opportunity to communicate and collaborate with trained teachers which allowed me to hone my communication and become a team player.
