Practicum 2 (2021)

PCF Sparkletots (Sept 2021-Nov 2021)

As part of my practicum assessment, I was attached to PCF Sparkletots for a month as an assistant teacher to gather more experience in teaching and routine care.

I taught a group of N2 (3-4 years) children and implemented numeracy, motor skills and literacy lesson plans to them.

As a teacher assistant, I:

-Distributed lunch and teatime for the children
-Kept the children's cots before and after nap time
-Watched the children during nap time
-Read engaging stories and participated in playtime sessions
-Assisted in toileting duties

Feedback from host teacher

Hai Qing is a conscientious and friendly person who is patient with all the children and treats them equally with respect. She will constantly check in with me and the other teachers to ensure the children are able to understand and enjoy her lesson plans.

What I learned....

- Classroom management skills such as how to get children to pay attention to lessons and play together without fighting over toys

- Curriculum planning skills such as planning age-appropriate learning resources for children with different learning paces and abilities e.g. pictorial guide sheets for those who cannot read long sentences.

The practicum gave me the opportunity to communicate and collaborate with trained teachers which allowed me to hone my communication and become a team player.
