Internship @ Ebridge-Preschool (2023)

For my 6-month final-year polytechnic internship, I was attached to be a student-teacher at E-Bridge Preschool. I was under the mentorship of an experienced senior teacher and ex-principal who guided me on my path to become a educator.

It was my first time teaching a class of children that young (pre-nursery) but it broadened my horizons. During this internship, I learned to better manage time to ensure that I could complete my school assignments while planning lessons for the children.

Besides caretaking duties, I also:

-planned and carried out an incursion event for the pre-nursery and nursery children
-created teaching aids and take-home kits
-worked with other teachers to set up events and activities for festivities (national day etc).

This teaching aid was placed in the learning corner. Children enjoyed touching, smelling and smashing the ingredients together in the mortar and pestles provided. Some were able to give different reactions such as 'smells not nice' and 'sweet!' to the different scents.

Humpty Dumpty Take-home kit

After reading a nursery-rhyme book on Humpty Dumpty, I created a sensorial build-your-own humpty dumpty with three different levels for children of different abilities to interact with. Lyrics were written out to encourage parents to sing the nursery rhyme with their children, enabling their children to work on their motor skills and language abilities.

National Day Incursion Event

I created and carried out an incursion event to introduce the children to various pastimes in Singapore's culture. The older nursery children were able to engage in the more physically demanding activities such as hopscotch and paper ball. The younger pre-nursery children enjoyed playing with the paper balls and dancing to national day songs.
