Magnetic Matching the Numerals Number Board

Art_volunteer.jpg

As part of a group assignment for the module Early Numeracy, I created a magnetic numeracy bingo to get N2 children to extend their learning in matching numeral numbers to dots and finger signs. I created it in a way that children would have to play with a friend by rolling a dice to get a number from 1 to 5. Afterwards, they would match and stick the number numeral with magnets on them it to the corresponding number of dots or finger number sign on the board until all the numbers have been matched.

Feeding the Artic Animals Numeracy Kit

Our group assignment requires us to come up with two different levels of games on our numeracy topic which was matching numbers 1 to 5 to number numerals.

Game: I came up with the idea of first reading an animal storybook on counting 1 to 5. Afterwards, we would get children to roll a dice with the 5 animals in the storybook, then stick the right number of fish sticks into the slot in front of the animal sticks with the numbers on them. Afterwards, they could move onto the level two game which was the magnetic numerals game board.

We made the dice, fish sticks and animal slots board using recycled materials and items we had at home.

What I learned:

Resourcefulness and creativity as I had to efficiently use recyclables and materials from home to create the magnetic board for the project.

- Time management skills as I only had a few days to plan and prepare the game all by myself with and age-appropriate instruction and answer sheets for the children.
